Before this clinical trial, previous studies had already suggested that modafinil could improve cognitive performance in healthy volunteers, patients with major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and certain neurological conditions. During this clinical trial, only one participant developed symptoms consistent with hypomania. Following the study protocol, treatment was immediately discontinued, and the symptoms resolved after stopping the medication.
