Beta carotene

Beta-carotene

Scientists first mentioned beta-carotene (provitamin A) in 1831, when German chemist Wackenroder isolated the coloring pigment from yellow turnip. And he called it the "elixir of beauty and youth."

The highest amount of beta-carotene is found in carrots. And even the Latin translation of this provitamin means orange root vegetable.

What is beta-carotene needed for?

When beta-carotene enters the body, it is converted into retinol. That is, it is the precursor (provitamin) of vitamin A. It is fat-soluble and is absorbed only in the presence of fat. Beta-carotene has two forms: crystalline (purple-red color) and oily solution (yellow-orange shade).

The main task of beta-carotene is to deliver retinol to the body. But at the same time, the provitamin protects cells from cancerous radicals and prevents cardiovascular diseases. It lowers cholesterol levels and fights the development of atherosclerosis.

The provitamin protects the skin, hair, and nails from the negative effects of the environment, for example, blocking ultraviolet radiation. It is also an effective remedy for eye diseases. It slows the development of cataracts and glaucoma, preserving vision even in old age.

Doctors recommend beta-carotene as a means to strengthen the immune system in the treatment of colds, with increased physical and mental stress. It is prescribed for cancer, stomach ulcers, gastritis, and dysbiosis.

Beta-carotene deficiency

Dry and flaky skin indicates that the body needs beta-carotene. This is especially relevant in winter and early spring when there are no vegetables and fruits. Acne, weak hair, and peeling nails also indicate a deficiency of provitamin. If you have poor eyesight, you should also consider this.
